AgoKwe Creations is owned and operated by Carla Walker, Citizen Potawatomi Nation tribal member.  All designs and crafts are made with care in the spirit of the ancestors, using techniques and materials as closely replicated to the old ways as possible.

Quillwork - Historically, quillwork was practiced by tribes from all over North America.  Over time, in most North American tribes, glass beads replaced quills as a decorative art material, but for AgoKwe Designs, quillwork remains a fulfilling art for form, in keeping with our ancestors' ways.  Here you will find a variety of items using quills and beads alone or together to create beautiful designs.  All quills used by AgoKwe are carefully prepared and hand dyed, and all forms are hand cut from deer rawhide.

Defined, quillwork is the art of applying dyed porcupine quills to beautify a functional object with attractive colors. There are a variety of methods used to attach quills to such items.  While quillwork is practiced by few, some methods are more common than others. The most common methods include wrapping the quill on rawhide, stitching quills directly onto buckskin, and plaited quillwork, which is the braiding of quills into a cord which is then used to decorate an object.

Care of Quilled Items - Quills are actually porcupine hair and should not be exposed to moisture like swimming, rain, a bath or shower.  Sunlight will fade quills, and quills can wear out with constant use.  Be sure to store them safely in a dark, dry, safe place when not in use.

Apparel - Many styles of dance regalia is available at AgoKwe ~ applique skirts & blouses, ribbon shirts, purses, hair ornaments, fans, pouches, and much more.

Featured is a Southern Women's Cloth ensemble, using woodland style designs.  This is common among many Oklahoma Nations as,  prior to the Indian Removal Act, their homelands were often the northern and eastern regions of this country.  Although considered Southern Plains tribes today, their cultural continuity is evident in these design.
